What you will notice

What you get out of it

This is what changes in your day to day when you give your body well-guided hours without food.

Deep focus every morning

Long work blocks with no brain fog and no need to snack to concentrate.

Why:Fasting produces ketones, a steady fuel source for your brain.

Energy without the crash

You perform the same at 11 a.m. as at 6 p.m., without leaning on caffeine.

Why:Steady blood sugar means no spikes and no energy crashes.

Your body does its cleanup

You feel lighter and recover better after demanding days.

Why:Longer fasts trigger autophagy: cells recycle what they no longer need.

Markers you can track

Studies link fasting with better blood sugar, lipids and inflammation.

Why:Fewer hours eating improves how you handle sugar and fat.

Deeper, more restful sleep

Close your window early and your HRV and rest usually notice.

Why:Sleeping without digestion lets your nervous system focus on recovery.

Data, not hunches

History, streaks and meal logging to see what actually works for you.

Why:What gets measured gets optimized: everyone responds differently.

4h
Digestion
Nutrients in circulation
0-4hDigestion

Nutrients in circulation

Last meal, heavy on protein and micronutrients. The clock starts.

4-12hLow insulin

Steady blood sugar, real rest

Overnight hours. With no digestion, your nervous system focuses on recovery.

12-16hLight ketosis

Clean focus, no hunger

Ketones rise. This is your best window for deep work.

16-18hEarly autophagy

Cell recycling underway

The 18:6 goal. Low hunger, clear head. Break your fast with protein.

18-24hFull ketosis

Heavy fat burning for fuel

Only on your 24h day. Electrolytes and easy movement, no HIIT.

24-48hDeep autophagy

More intense cellular cleanup

Advanced and occasional. Listen to your body and break the fast carefully.

Your progress

What to expect, week by week

Week 1

Settling into 18:6. Your first mornings of focus with no breakfast.

Weeks 2-3

Steady energy and less coffee dependence. Your first 24-hour fast.

Month 1

Protocol dialed in with your data: you know which window works best.

Month 3

Solid habit, and a good time to compare your bloodwork with before.

What the science saysFasting for Longevity & Biohacking

The link between fasting and longevity comes mostly from animal studies, where periodic fasting or calorie restriction extends lifespan and switches on cell-protection pathways. In humans there's no proof it extends lifespan, but sustained moderate calorie restriction does improve cardiometabolic risk factors. Fasts of 24 hours or more call for caution and aren't for everyone.

  • In simpler organisms chronic fasting extends lifespan; in rodents, intermittent fasting protects against diabetes, cancer and neurodegeneration. [1]
  • In CALERIE, 2 years of calorie restriction in 218 non-obese adults lowered LDL, blood pressure and C-reactive protein. [2]
  • In mice, bimonthly cycles of a fasting-mimicking diet started in middle age extended lifespan and reduced visceral fat. [3]
Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

What is autophagy and when does it start?
It's the process your cells use to recycle damaged components. In humans there's no exact clock: the evidence suggests it ramps up somewhere after 16-24 hours of fasting and increases further in longer fasts.
Does fasting extend lifespan?
In animals, time- and calorie-restricted eating is linked to living longer. In humans, studies link fasting with better metabolic health markers, but there's no proof yet that it extends lifespan. It's a reasonable bet, not a promise.
Which protocol do you recommend for starting out?
16:8 for two weeks, then daily 18:6 and, if it sits well with you, one 24-hour fast a week. Fasts of 48-72 hours are occasional, and it's worth checking with a professional first if you have any medical condition.
Does coffee break your fast?
Black coffee, with no sugar or milk, has almost no calories and doesn't break your fast in practice. Adding milk, oil or butter does add energy and cancels part of the effect.
Will I lose muscle on longer fasts?
With occasional fasts and enough protein in your eating window, the impact is minimal. Keep strength training and don't stack long fasts back to back without a break.
